The Velvet Underground conmemorará el 45 aniversario de su tercer disco homónimo con una reedición de lujo, según indicó The Guardian.
La placa que saldrá el 24 de noviembre a través de Polydor / UME, incluye una colección de seis CD y que abarca un total de 65 pistas, incluyendo varias tomas falsas, mezclas alternativas y grabaciones en vivo. La colección también cuenta con nuevas notas escritas por David Fricke de Rolling Stone.
La mezclas saldrán en sonido estéreo y mono, así como el original de 1969. Estas están contenidas en los tres primeros discos.
De particular punto culminante es el disco cuatro, placa que comprende un álbum inédito de la banda grabado como medio a salir de su contrato con MGM. La placa de octubre de 1969 que salió por Record Plant de Nueva York, esta versión incluye 10 mezclas inéditas, cuatro y seis de la vendimia a estrenar, incluyendo los temas “Lisa Says”, “I Can’t Stand It”, y la versión original de «Ocean«. Este último fue finalmente re-grabada por Lou Reed para su álbum homónimo debut de 1972.
Los dos discos finales prometen grabaciones selectas en vivo de temporada de la banda en San Francisco en el The Matrix, realizado los días 26 y 27 de noviembre de 1969. Esta es la primera vez que estas canciones se han compilado y mezclado de las grabaciones multipista originales.
Lanzado en marzo de 1969, The Velvet Underground marcó el primer LP de la banda sin su co-fundador John Cale. El álbum está acompañada de un cambio distinto en estilo y enfoque, como el estilo experimental de principios de la banda, la qué se convirtió en baladas y rock lineal.
