Este año se cumple el 50 aniversario de The Kinks. Mientras que los miembros fundadores Dave y Ray Davies permanecen indecisos para una posible gira reunión, Legacy Records ha anunciado planes para celebrar a la emblemática banda con una serie de versiones de archivo.
La placa que saldrá el 14 de octubre llamado The Essential Kinks, es una antología retrospectiva que abarca a los rockeros británicos. La colección incluye 48 pistas en dos discos, incluyendo éxitos clásicos como «You Really Got Me«, «Waterloo Sunset«, «Strangers«, «Life Goes On» y «20th Century Man«, además de versiones en vivo de «Lola«, «Till the End of the Day» y «Where Have All The Good Times Gone«.
Luego, el 10 de noviembre, Legacy lanzará una edición deluxe CD / DVD ampliada de Muswell Hillbillies de 1971. Remasterizado de las cintas analógicas, el juego de dos discos presenta el álbum original más nueve bonus tracks, siete de los cuales nunca antes habían sido puestos en libertad en América. El segundo disco incluye también dos raras apariciones en televisión de 1972, los cuales también están haciendo su debut en América del Norte.
Para acompañar a los dos comunicados, Legacy también ha obtenido la licencia de 16 álbumes de los Kinks liberados entre los años 1971 y 1986, y han hecho versiones remasterizadas de cada LP, el cual está disponible para su descarga digital.
