Paul McCartney ha sido galardonado con innumerables álbumes tributo en los últimos años, aunque uno agrupados por el productor Ralph Sall, apenas pudo rematar todas. El nuevo tributo llamado The Art of McCartney , placa que saldrá el 18 de noviembre, contará con bandas de la talla de The Cure, Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Billy Joel, Ian McCulloch, Barry Gibb, Roger Daltrey, Yusuf Islam (AKA Cat Stevens) y entre otros más.
El proyecto ha estado realmente en las obras desde 2003, después de recibir la aprobación de McCartney, junto a la banda de acompañamiento de Macca – Rusty Anderson y Brian Ray en guitarristas, el tecladista Paul «Wix» Wickens y el baterista Abe Laboriel, Jr. – lo que comenzaron a reclutar a potenciales cantantes.
La lista de canciones incluye cover de «Things We Said Today» por parte de Dylan, «Wanderlust» de Wilson, «Maybe I’m Amazed” y “Live and Let Die» de Joel, «When I’m 64″ de Gibb y “Helter Skelter” de Daltrey.
Como nuestra primera muestra, la revista Rolling Stone ha estrenado un vídeo en el estudio de The Cure cubriendo «Hello Goodbye» con James McCartney, hijo del tributado. Esto marca la primera nueva grabación de la banda desde el año 2008.
The Art Of McCartney estará disponible en CD, vinilo y formatos digitales, así como un sistema de la caja de lujo con un documental sobre el proyecto, una unidad USB diseñado para parecer el bajo de McCartney y un certificado de autenticidad.
